Intas Pomisol Ear Drops for Dogs & Cats
Pomisol Ear Drops are a fast acting, veterinary ear medication for dogs and cats that treat painful, itchy and infected ears. This 15 ml bottle combines an antibiotic, an antifungal, an anti-inflammatory steroid and a local anaesthetic, so it clears the infection, calms the inflammation and eases the pain in one product. Pomisol is used for ear infections (otitis externa), ear mites, and the head shaking, scratching and discharge that come with them. It is suitable for both dogs and cats, and priced at ₹75. Note that this is an ear drop for use in the ear canal, not an eye drop.
Drug class and composition
Pomisol is a fixed-dose otic (ear) preparation that combines four active classes in one solution. In pharmacy terms, its composition is:
|
Active ingredient |
Pharmacological class |
Action in the ear |
|
Ofloxacin |
Fluoroquinolone antibacterial |
Kills the bacteria responsible for bacterial ear infections. |
|
Clotrimazole |
Imidazole antifungal |
Treats fungal and yeast (Malassezia) ear infections. |
|
Beclomethasone Dipropionate |
Topical corticosteroid |
Reduces inflammation, swelling and itching in the ear canal. |
|
Lignocaine |
Local anaesthetic |
Provides rapid relief from ear pain and discomfort. |
This antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and analgesic combination is what makes Pomisol effective against mixed ear infections, where bacteria and fungi occur together, which is the most common presentation in dogs and cats. Because it contains a corticosteroid, it is a prescription medicine intended for short, supervised courses.
What Pomisol Ear Drops are used for
Pomisol is prescribed for the common causes of ear trouble in dogs and cats, including:
• Bacterial ear infections (otitis externa), the most common ear infection in dogs
• Fungal and yeast ear infections, which often cause a dark, waxy discharge and a distinctive smell
• Ear mites, a frequent and intensely itchy problem, especially in cats and kittens
• Mixed infections involving both bacteria and fungi
• Inflamed, itchy, painful ears with head shaking, scratching, redness or discharge
If your pet is shaking its head, scratching at an ear, or you notice discharge or odour, those are the classic signs Pomisol is used to treat. For the fuller picture, see our guides on dog ear infections and recognising and treating ear mites, and browse the full ear drops for dogs and cats range.
How to use Pomisol Ear Drops
Always follow your vet’s specific instructions. The general method is:
• Clean the ear first. Gently clean away discharge and wax with a vet-recommended ear cleaner and let the ear dry. Drops work far better on a clean ear.
• Hold the ear flap up to open the ear canal.
• Instil the number of drops your vet prescribes into the ear canal, usually a few drops once or twice daily.
• Massage the base of the ear gently for a few seconds so the drops spread down into the canal. You may hear a soft squelching sound, which is normal.
• Let your pet shake its head, then wipe away any excess from the outer ear.
• Treat both ears if advised, and complete the full course your vet sets, even if the ear looks better, since stopping early lets infections return.
🩺 Vet Tip from Dr Devayani (MVSc, 6+ years of experience): The most common reason ear drops seem to "not work" is skipping the cleaning step. If the canal is full of wax and discharge, the medication never reaches the infected skin. Clean first, let it dry, then apply the drops. And always finish the prescribed course, because ear infections that are treated for too short a time are the ones that keep coming back. If the ear is very painful, smells strongly, or is not clearly improving in a few days, book a vet consultation rather than continuing on your own, as some deep infections need the eardrum checked first.
Dosage
Pomisol is dosed by your veterinarian based on your pet’s size and the severity of the infection. As a general guide, a few drops are instilled into the affected ear once or twice a day, but the exact number of drops and frequency should come from your vet’s prescription. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or extend the course on your own because of the steroid content.
Safety information and side effects
Pomisol is well tolerated when used correctly, but a few points matter.
• Prescription only. It contains a corticosteroid and antibiotics, so use it only on a vet’s advice and for the ear it was prescribed for.
• Have the eardrum checked if the infection is deep or severe. Some ear medications should not be used if the eardrum is perforated, so a vet should examine the ear first in serious cases.
• Use in cats under veterinary guidance, as cats can be more sensitive to medications.
• Mild, temporary head shaking right after applying is normal. Stop and contact your vet if you see worsening redness, swelling, loss of balance or signs of pain.
• For use in the ear only. This is not an eye or oral medication.
• Avoid long term or repeated courses without veterinary review, because of the steroid.
Storage and handling
• Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
• Keep the cap tightly closed and the bottle in its box so batch and expiry stay visible.
• Keep out of reach of children and other pets.
• For external ear use in animals only. Do not use past the printed expiry.

Frequently asked questions
What are Pomisol Ear Drops used for in dogs and cats?
Pomisol treats ear infections and ear mites in dogs and cats. It works on bacterial and fungal ear infections, and the itching, pain, head shaking and discharge that come with them. Its four ingredients cover bacteria, fungus, inflammation and pain at once, making it effective for the mixed ear infections pets commonly get.
Is Pomisol an antibiotic?
Pomisol contains an antibiotic, ofloxacin, but it is more than that. It also contains an antifungal (clotrimazole), an anti-inflammatory steroid (beclomethasone) and a local anaesthetic (lignocaine). So it treats bacterial and fungal ear infections together while reducing inflammation and pain, rather than acting as an antibiotic alone.
How do I use Pomisol Ear Drops on my pet?
First clean the ear with an ear cleaner and let it dry. Hold the ear flap up, instil the prescribed number of drops into the canal, then massage the base of the ear so they spread down. Let your pet shake its head and wipe away excess. Repeat as your vet directs and finish the course.
What is the dosage of Pomisol Ear Drops for dogs?
Dosage is set by your vet based on your dog’s size and how severe the infection is. As a general guide it is a few drops into the affected ear once or twice daily, but follow the exact number and frequency on your prescription. Do not exceed the dose or extend the course on your own.
Does Pomisol treat ear mites?
Yes. Pomisol is used for ear mite infections in dogs and cats, easing the intense itching and treating the secondary infection that mites often cause. Ear mites are especially common in cats and kittens. For a stubborn or recurring mite problem, a vet may combine it with other treatment, so a consult is worth it.
Can I use Pomisol Ear Drops on my cat?
Yes, Pomisol is used in both cats and dogs, but for cats it should be used under veterinary guidance, since cats can be more sensitive to medications. Have a vet confirm the ear problem and the correct dose. Never use leftover medication from another pet without checking with your vet first.
Do I need a prescription to buy Pomisol Ear Drops?
Yes. Pomisol is a Schedule H prescription medicine because it contains a corticosteroid and antibiotics. You can upload a prescription at checkout, or order and a Fifozone vet will verify it with a callback and issue one where appropriate. This keeps treatment of your pet’s ear safe and correct.
What is the price of Pomisol Ear Drops?
Intas Pomisol Ear Drops are priced at ₹75 for the 15 ml bottle on Fifozone, with money-saving combos that pair the drops with an ear cleaner also available. As a prescription item it ships after quick verification, with same-day and 30-minute delivery available in metro cities.
