NexGard Dog Tick & Flea Control Tablet (Afoxolaner) — Pack of 3
NexGard is a monthly beef-flavoured chewable that protects your dog from ticks and fleas with a single tasty tablet. Its active ingredient is afoxolaner, and because most dogs happily take it as a treat, it is the flea and tick chewable for dogs that vets reach for when a dog refuses other tablets. NexGard comes in four weight bands covering dogs from 2 kg to 50 kg, so there is a correct dose whether you have a Shih Tzu or a Rottweiler. It is part of our full dog tick & flea range and the wider tick & flea tablets collection, priced from ₹1,837 for a 3-month pack.
How NexGard works?
NexGard is an oral flea and tick medicine for dogs. After your dog eats the chew, afoxolaner is absorbed into the bloodstream. When a flea or tick bites, it takes in the afoxolaner and its nervous system is disrupted, killing it before it can breed or transmit disease. Because it works from the bloodstream rather than sitting on the coat, it does not wash off during baths, swimming or the monsoon rain — a real edge over spot-ons and shampoos for dogs who get bathed often.
One chew gives a full month of protection. As a monthly flea and tick treatment for dogs, it starts killing fleas within hours and keeps working for 30 days, so you can time protection to tick season and dose on a date you will remember. Afoxolaner also has activity against certain mange mites, which is why vets sometimes prescribe NexGard as part of a mange treatment plan — useful if your search was really "dog mite treatment tablet".
NexGard tablet dosage by dog weight
NexGard is dosed by body weight, one chew per month. Weigh your dog and pick the matching pack — an under-dose leaves gaps in protection, an over-dose gives no extra benefit.

One chew per month, on the same date each month — set a phone reminder.
Give with or without food. Most dogs take the beef-flavoured chew straight from the hand.
Make sure the whole tablet is eaten — a spat-out chew means a month of no protection.
Licensed from 8 weeks of age and 2 kg body weight, which makes NexGard one of the few tick and flea chews suitable for puppies.
Do not split tablets to stretch a pack — use the correct weight band.

🩺 Vet Tip: NexGard kills on bite, not on contact, so for a day or two after dosing you may still see live ticks before they die and drop — that is the chew working. On dosing day, do two things: remove any visible ticks by hand and wash your dog’s bedding hot. Most of a flea or tick population lives in the home, not on the dog, so our guide on getting rid of fleas and ticks is worth a read alongside the first dose. Not sure which weight band your dog needs? A free vet consult settles it in minutes. |
How to give NexGard to your dog?
Confirm the right weight band — weigh, do not estimate.
Offer the chew directly; most dogs treat it as a snack.
If fussy, tuck it into paneer, chicken or a spoon of curd.
Watch your dog swallow the whole tablet.
Mark the next dose 30 days ahead.
What to do if you miss a monthly dose?
Remembered soon after? Give the chew and resume monthly dosing from that date.
Missed by longer? Check your dog for ticks and fleas, dose now, and reset the reminder.
Never double up to catch up — one chew is the full monthly dose.
Safety information
NexGard is well tolerated by most dogs. When side effects occur they are usually mild — vomiting, itching, diarrhoea, lethargy or reduced appetite, most often shortly after a dose.
A note on the isoxazoline class: afoxolaner belongs to the isoxazoline family, which regulators including the US FDA have flagged for rare neurological reactions — tremors, loss of coordination and seizures — in a small number of dogs, occasionally without prior history. It is uncommon and most dogs are entirely fine, but it is why the points below matter.
Tell your vet before dosing if your dog has any history of [seizures]( or neurological disorders.
Do not use in dogs with a known allergy to afoxolaner or other isoxazolines (fluralaner, sarolaner, lotilaner).
Not for cats — this is a dog-only tablet.
Call your vet immediately if you see tremors, wobbliness or a seizure after dosing, or signs of an allergic reaction such as facial swelling.
NexGard covers ticks and fleas but not intestinal worms or heartworm. If you want all-in-one cover, see NexGard Spectra or Simparica Trio in the alternatives below, or pair NexGard with a separate dog dewormer.
Storage and handling
Store below 30°C in a dry place, out of direct sunlight.
Keep chews in the original blister — they are palatable, so a dog can help itself to a loose strip.
Keep out of reach of children and other pets.
Do not use past the printed expiry.
Substitutes and alternatives

Simparica (sarolaner) |
Also monthly, ticks and fleas only. Kills slightly faster; available as a single tablet to trial tolerance. |

All-in-one: adds heartworm and intestinal worm cover to the monthly chew. The upgrade if you want one product for everything. |
|
Bravecto (fluralaner) |
12-weekly, not monthly — one chew lasts 3 months. Better for pet parents who forget monthly dates. |
|
Vivaldis Vetecto / Veko Furaline (fluralaner) |
Indian-made fluralaner tablets — the budget route to 12-week cover if price is the deciding factor. |
|
Tick & flea spot-ons |
Topical alternative for dogs who will not swallow a chew. Can repel as well as kill, but washes off with bathing. |

FAQs
What is NexGard used for in dogs?
NexGard is a monthly chewable that protects dogs against ticks and fleas, and it has activity against certain mange mites too. It contains afoxolaner, kills parasites that bite your dog, and keeps working for a full month per chew. It does not cover intestinal worms or heartworm — for that, look at NexGard Spectra or Simparica Trio, or pair it with a dewormer.
How do I choose the right NexGard dose by dog weight?
By body weight, one chew a month: 2–4 kg dogs get the 11.3 mg tablet, 4–10 kg the 28.3 mg, 10–25 kg the 68 mg, and 25–50 kg the 136 mg. Weigh your dog on a scale rather than guessing, and if your dog sits on a boundary, confirm with a vet. Each pack contains 3 tablets — three months of protection.
Is NexGard safe for puppies?
Yes — NexGard is licensed from 8 weeks of age and 2 kg body weight, which makes it one of the few oral tick and flea options suitable for puppies. That is a genuine advantage over 12-week chews like Bravecto, which generally require dogs to be 6 months or older. Confirm your puppy’s weight band and pair with an age-appropriate deworming schedule.
What is the price of NexGard tablets for dogs in India?
On Fifozone, a pack of 3 NexGard chews is ₹1,837 for 2–4 kg dogs, ₹2,113 for 4–10 kg, ₹2,091 for 10–25 kg and ₹2,364 for 25–50 kg. Each pack is three months of protection, which works out to a predictable monthly cost. Filter the tick & flea tablets collection by price to compare against other brands.
Is NexGard the same as afoxolaner? Can I buy afoxolaner tablets?
Yes — afoxolaner is the active ingredient in NexGard, so when you search "afoxolaner chewable tablets" or "afoxolaner 136 mg", NexGard is the branded product you are looking for. The 136 mg strength is the 25–50 kg tablet. There is no separate generic afoxolaner tablet on Fifozone; NexGard is the afoxolaner product.
How fast does NexGard work, and does it wash off?
NexGard starts killing fleas within a few hours and ticks within a day, and one chew lasts a full month. Because it works from the bloodstream, it does not wash off in baths, swimming or the rain — unlike spot-ons and shampoos. You may still see live ticks for a day or two after dosing before they die; that is normal, as the tablet kills on bite.
Is NexGard safe? I have read about isoxazoline side effects.
Most dogs tolerate it very well; side effects, when they happen, are usually mild digestive upset or itching. The honest caveat is that afoxolaner is an isoxazoline, a class the FDA has flagged for rare neurological reactions such as seizures in some dogs. It is uncommon, but if your dog has any seizure or neurological history, tell your vet before dosing — the free consult with your order is the place to raise it.
Can I give NexGard to my cat?
No. NexGard is a dog-only tablet, dosed for canine weight and metabolism. Never give it to a cat. For feline tick and flea protection, use a cat-licensed product and confirm the right one with a vet.
