Fipronil acts on the chloride channels and their ligands, especially GABA neurotransmitter. It kills fleas within 24 hours and ticks and lice within 48 hours of application. (S)-methoprene is similar to juvenile hormone and inhibits the development of immature stages of insects. It causes impaired development and death of immature stages of fleas. (S)-methoprene also prevents the development of larvae and pupae of fleas.
